I've already re-watched that performance at least 10 times. Besides the utter profundity of the song itself and how this woman-girl's throaty delivery mesmerized us all (and those moves!), I nearly lost it at her chutzpah when she says to a room full of A+ level performers, "Why are you all acting like you don't know this song?" You go girl!! And if that weren't enough, how in the middle of the song she gleefully shouts, "I just won my first Grammy," and skips around the stage. Talk about throwing off shackles! #mynewidol
The official video for the song is equally as mesmerizing. Miley has an amazing voice and she is a powerful presence. I feel exactly the same about this song. Instant classic. I am so happy for the young women who will be influenced by its sentiment.
You are so absolutely correct! I saw her on the Grammys and immediately downloaded the song! It is beautiful, powerful and real! Thank you for bringing attention to this wonderful song!
For me, the ✨magic✨ was all about Tracy Chapman. In her potent shining gracefilled way she blew everyone's soul wide open. This performance was a touchstone for millions of people. The audience was blown away by the love blast given by Tracy Chapman and the wonderfully soulful and talented Luke Combs (who totally honored her) and I think Tracy Chapman was blown away by the Love blast she received from the audience . Her surprise appearance with " Fast
Car" after 35 years was the crowning jewel of the Grammys. Can't stop thinking about her!
I had the same response. Thank you for acknowledging these moments in time when a performer is awakening a consciousness among us. Divine feminine rises.
Thank you Marianne. I had a similar experience watching Miley Cyrus at the Grammy's --it was the first time I had ever heard the song, "Flowers", and once I did I was floored. What a ecstatic punch. I cried re-watching the video clip of her dancing on stage the next day. I felt as if she was singing and dancing for all of us who have been hopelessly attached to unhealthy romantic relationships. What a beautiful anthem! Side note: I work as a substitute teacher in Kingston, NY and for the next few days after Miley's performance, I blasted this song on my music player as I trekked the mile and a half to school. What a way to start the morning--in music prayer.
MARIANNE: EXCELLENT! AND TRUE. It seems, even today, too many women are still grasping and not realizing their true importance. I've attached the Cyrus video of "Flowers" that's spectacular: Enjoy it!
Thank you for this perspective! because I was having a tough time fully appreciating the song, tho I enjoyed it and the message, because to me, while brilliant, she comes off as having too little care and way too full of herself.
I love this post so much. Thank you, Marianne.

I know--her celebration of herself and her success--was so glorious and inspiring!
“I can Love me better than you can” … It’s TRUE!!

Amen Marianne. Go Miley.
I had the same reaction when I heard Flowers for the first time almost a year ago. It’s such an anthem.

Beautiful!! Thanks Marianne.
In another vein I think of the goddess Laura Nyro so many of her songs were far ahead of her time. She wrote Save the Country in 1968

I can't get mileys Grammy performance and song out of my head!
Great post! I relate.
