Why are these intelligent men, and women he is appointing and counting among his minions going along with all this? Why is there not a genuine refusal, safety in numbers to do these deeds and watch Musk and Trump take over, and truly, as you say break the system down!? They already have run over congress, stopping already appropriated funds. I really do not understand how they already have enough power to frighten these Yale graduate men into submission? You are so right, and they are not even ignorant? What gives? I still want to believe and have faith in our basic humanity and our inherent kindness and care for each other. I have let go of the “it can not happen here” I was sounding like my kin in Germany during Hitler’s rise? Will the good guys win ? I mean gals?😍Iam sending Lovingkindness non stop! Keep on Marianne!

There is a thicker level of denial in the air for some than others, obviously. Telling us we're overreacting is almost a knee jerk reaction they have learned from their propaganda pretend news or talk shows, where they talk about how wonderful Trump is and pander to him thinking he's there to benefit anybody besides himself. He is the world's most conceited person with the least to be conceited about. Just Ukraine alone is treason and betrayal, wanting to block their membership in NATO, getting Canadians to boo us, I mean Candadians! We love them, they are our friends and so are Mexicans. This whipping up manufactured disputes acting as if he has a right to take over their countries and rename geographic landmarks, just laughable. He hasn't learned anything from his mistakes, and he didn't even bother to take any time to learn how the government runs or what is actually in the Constitution. He was incompetent before, and most Republicans were trying to distance themselves from him on January 7. What he's doing now is worse than what he did (or didn't do) on January 6, and then pardoning those vicious violent criminals is disgusting. How is anybody acting in a "soap opera" fashion just stating what this idiot has been doing or attempting to do? The firing of civil service employees in such a crass and thoughtless way, then having to undo it when he realized he'd just fired those who were in charge of nuclear weapons. Firing the bird flu experts and doing nothing about that, pretty much echoing his COVID response. Letting Elon Musk, who is not in charge of anything, tell people to go home and give him information he has no business accessing. All governmental financial information is available in public records so there is no need to take a team of coders (notice not auditors or accountants) to invade those offices as if he's in charge of them. Why take people's livelihoods away from them? What happened to creating jobs, well-paying jobs with benefits? The only waste going on is Trump's publicity stunts and golf outings and Elon Musk's grab for power and monies that don't belong to him. Biden worked to benefit everyone, even those who didn't vote for him. Trump is hurting both those who voted for him and those who were sensible enough not to.

Hi Jean,

Nice piece and good opinions. Can I engage you on just one thing from your post? Since the Ukrainian war began, a few of the European countries sought and became part of NATO, after remaining neutral for decades. If it was a feasibility, Ukraine would have been accorded the same status during Biden's administration as well. The consequences of that would have been grotesque though. And the whole point of contention that started that war was around that one point, trying to make Ukraine part of NATO and Russia not submitting to these wishes meekly as per the guarantees that were accorded to them. So it is not the Trump administration that is blocking the NATO membership for Ukraine, he is just taking the credit, even Biden couldn't have done that, if he were the president for another 4 years.

They were about to become members, but the US presidential disgusting result has screwed that up. AP article from October 16, 2024 stated:

"While outlining his plan on Wednesday, Zelenskyy told Ukrainian lawmakers that granting the country a NATO invitation would be a 'testament of (allies’) determination' to support its efforts.

'An invitation is a strong decision that requires nothing but determination,' he said.

Ukraine’s future in NATO is something the alliance has weighed for 16 years.

At their summit in Washington in July, the 32 members declared Ukraine on an 'irreversible' path to membership. To the uninitiated, however, little seems to have progressed since NATO leaders promised Ukraine and Georgia in 2008 that 'these countries will become members of NATO' one day."

I can't help but think back to a time when President Bush bulldozed the NATO allies that had objections for granting membership to Turkey, coz he wanted that and he got it in a very pushy manner too. No idea what the delay was then, especially the one who needed the most was Ukraine, not the other European countries whose request was quickly acquiesced. Who in NATO would have objected to such a proposal for Ukraine? Anyway, I am not trying to correct you, just exchanging my views and trying to learn from other's perspectives.

Ukraine as a free and sovereign country had perfect right to NATO membership, it is little to do with Russia. Having said that and as a European, I have to say I can't wait for America to pull out of its bases and overbearing control of European geo politics. It is last century and needs to end

I went to the Dallas, TX "No Kings in America" protest on Monday. I was hoping to talk to people and show them the QR code to this page I put together about the need for global cooperation as the only path to real progress.

https://international-peace-day-dallas.info/global-cooperation/

I found that everyone seems too caught up in their messages and feelings of disgust and anger right now. It's understandable, but where I think the progressive protests have it wrong is this thought of "oh, yes, that's nice but we have to stop this dictator right now. We'll get back to that type of stuff later on." Without a completely different, coherent, full-scale, comprehensive solution to our global crises to counter the current narratives, everything will continue to just be anger on one side and action by the current people in charge.

The public needs to hear a totally different message, a different vision of what is possible. The media need to hear it too, so that a more intelligent public discussion can take place. Without sharing of food and Earth's resources, there can be no sense of unity and trust among nations. Without this sense of cooperation we are in real trouble. Through sharing and cooperation we can and will solve our major crises. This is not utopian thinking. This is reality. The Brandt Commission of 1980 is our best example. Let's think much bigger and offer the public a vision of global transformation. Otherwise, we're just worried and yelling without a real plan forward.

Marianne, I genuinely appreciate your efforts to push for a more intelligent form of governance based on compassion and reason, looking out for Earth and all of her inhabitants.

There is so much to say on the Brandt Commission topic alone. I'm not an international economic advisor, but over the years I (and others I know) have been occasionally in touch with international development expert James Quilligan (https://greattransition.org/contributor/james-quilligan) who was part of that effort back in the early 1980's. He was a press secretary for the Brandt Commission and is perhaps one of the most important voices that isn't heard in today's public discourse. If the media would have someone like him on their shows, we would be given a chance to think much differently.

I have written many letters to all my Republican congressional representatives. Only one letter of reply was ever handwritten (from Rep. Kenny Marchant) and that short letter expressed appreciation for bringing up the Brandt Report. He hadn't heard of it, either. Although it happened so long ago now, it can serve as an outstanding example of what could be in the near future. We were so close to a complete transformation of life on Earth in the early 1980's, had it not been for a few Western leaders blocking the momentum. Let's not give up. Blueprints exist for a new world where nobody dies of hunger needlessly.

ANYONE who is witnessing what is going on, should be able to see that the methods that Trump is using are harsh and uncaring for let's see...the environment, people who have had solid jobs and now all of a sudden are slam-out-of-a-job, old people, people who aren't white, international relations, humans in the Ukraine...I could go on. It doesn't even matter if you agree with some of what he's doing or not...His methods are insane. And he's not creating a safe feeling for U.S. citizens. All actions and emotions in the known universe start from either LOVE or FEAR. Which do you think he's operating from?

It's not really a defense at all, but I think he absolutely is either unwilling or unable to put himself in another's shoes. I think he really believes that what Elon is doing is simply cutting wasteful spending from govt, but Elon seems to act rashly and needs to somehow be tempored, and DT likely cares not to do a deep dive himself into the facts. I don't think they've given much thought to the cruelty because they can only seem to see what's right in front of them. It's why we must keep giving them visual clues (impromptu 50501s) and making our presence known. You know how impressed DT gets with crowd size!

What I'm saying is he may not mean to be cruel. He may not be in touch with the pain he's actually causing because he can't relate. So we have to VISUALLY and AUDIBLY make him aware.

Be well!

As bizarre and worrisome as these events are, it's not by coincidence that we are witnessing this time in our country and the world. It's not a test even though it feels like it, but an opportunity to rise up to a challenge much like the world has seen over centuries. Having so much information on hand every second, is a burden and adds up to fear for many, anger, disappointment and delight to others. All the ancestors saw events like these, but had perhaps more time to digest and process, we don't. What is faith and trust? I'm struggling to identify them in my life, so I'm not putting my head in the proverbial sand and I'm taking the actions that I feel comfortable taking. I naively thought the "representatives" in Congress were actually able to represent the people who elected them or at least accepted the outcome of the vote of the majority. I'm not feeling represented right now. Radical cuts to essential services, creating unemployment for so many, and having some odd people examine personal information is cause for concern. So yes, I'll write to them and tell that to protect us (but I thought they would know this already). Federal government waste is a an old story, so is there a better way to examine and redirect the funds that are misused? Perhaps some of the eccentrics trying to run our country should pay taxes.

Marianne, I do hear what you're saying regarding being watchful, staying engaged and educating ourselves around our rights and history. It's useful to stay alert and be informed.

I just think we all have to be careful about thinking we know what's in another's mind, like Musk, especially if it's just because he hasn't taken the time to deny trying to be a dictator. He might have thick enough skin to hear it and ignore it (since in his mind it has no merit) much like you didn't need to respond to the crazy accusation that you were a "non-serious" presidential candidate. You chose to let your actions speak for themselves. I'm not sure we can prove anything by the absence of something. Just saying.

DT talking pre-election about maybe not having anymore elections or quoting Napoleon would be worrisome if there was no way on earth to stop it,

but I believe there are actually ways to stop it. Even Napolean had his Waterloo.

I'm no psychologist, but it seems like DT is simply unable to discern the difference between thoughts one may entertain in the privacy of one's own mind and those thoughts that are to be "screened out" before use in public. I believe it's akin to some kind of autism and/or ADHD which could explain his impulsiveness in word and in deed and his ability to function on very little sleep. Can he still be a danger to our democracy? Of course, because he may not even realize any damage he has done until systems are in a shambles around his feet.

I'm not saying he doesn't have grand dreams of being a king because I have no way of actually knowing. He may. We know he seems to admire dictators and communist rulers, which may be normal for someone like him, who's basically been able to operate unchecked even while a NY developer. Idk. No young female I have ever known has had the luxury of dreaming she might one day become a queen, especially in a democracy, so I can't relate. I'm just proposing his tongue may simply keep betraying his face. Having said that, in the position he now holds, we owe it to ourselves and our democracy to stay vigilant, and to act, if and when called to do so.

My next escalation of efforts is going to involve contacting Rubio's office, as my nation's Secretary of State, and ask him to release the taxpayers' money to do what it was legally earmarked for. There are millions of dollars of antibiotics intended to stop blindness in Africa, but they're sitting in a warehouse, undistributed, and set to expire. That's just purely inhumane and wasteful. I see no reason why we can't, respectfully, "reach across the aisle" and make our voices known to DT appointees. One voice can do plenty. Look at what Liz Cheney was able to do. And yes, what Pence did to uphold democracy. If we believe people have a conscience maybe they will reveal it to us. Let's not block off an avenue before even giving it a try. We have nothing to lose.

Hang in there and breathe.

Be well!

I don’t think many people share your concern Marianne. I have been a student of yours for many years and you inspired me to study the ACIM and I am endlessly grateful for that. I was blessed by God to pursue a legal education before the ACIM so I don’t know if that is what makes me feel like you are missing something here - that your aggrandisement of democracy and the constitution is no different to an aggrandisement of being a Catholic or a Jew. It’s all separation from God. If I were to run a political campaign as an ACIM student - I would never accuse my brothers of dictatorship, destruction of democracy! What is democracy!! You don’t have democracy and you have never have had it!! You don’t even need it!! All men and women are created equal before the eye of God. That’s all we need to know and share.

In the days following the ^programmed vance visit to Munich (and btw why is the VP there talking diplomacy and foreign policy at this time 🙄 good goddess!), countries around the EU announced putins 1 year plan to invade the Baltics and 5 year plan to take over the rest of EU. And while Europeans laugh at the thought of it, we seem to be unable to collectively remember how fast these trends fall into place. But slowly people, numbed from symptoms of hypercapitalism, slowly start to wake up 🐌

As an American-Dutch dual national, watching this coup run away with democracy from abroad, I question if Americans are able to see the same news the rest of the world sees?

If so, then why is everyone sitting around waiting for someone else to fix this? Where are the moderate Republicans speaking out? Why have the Dems not collectively organised a coup? Does anyone recall how Churchill took power? It's an important lesson that should be reviewed rn.

Um, yeah #itsacoup should be trending everywhere. Why are ppl so complacent and not wanting to call out fascism? Ya'll label it and apply sense and logic to what is happening!

Call out these behaviors in your community and let people know this is a global spread of a white superiority. We are back to building a master race but now we have the internet and aliens. Yall come on!?!?! We know how this ends, let's help the tech broligarchy reach their final destination quickly.

Our government can no longer be trusted, and unfortunately now is seen as a democracy in collapse from the outsider perspective. This leaves 🇺🇸 open for terrorism from abroad, but it's not an Arab Spring to fear when we have neo-nazi white bros managing domestic terrorism.

My fellow Americans, France is calling and would like to ask for the Lady of Liberty back. Apparently they feel she can be better resourced in a Republic where she's actually free to be brave and stand tall.
