NAVIGATING A MOMENT WHEN THE WORLD IS UPSIDE DOWN

Keep your eye on the horizon. We are birthing a new world.

Martin Luther King, Jr, said our lives begin to end on the day when we stop talking about things that matter most.

This isn’t an easy season of our lives. It’s making us dig deep into ourselves as well into an analysis of the world around us in order to understand what’s happening. But that’s not an entirely bad thing. In fact, it’s long overdue.

In the midst of this chaotic hour, a profound rebirth is also taking shape. Despite the noise, the lies and the millions of distractions, many are thinking about things that matter for the very first time in a long while, if ever. Even the fear we feel is for many people the most authentic moment they’ve allowed themselves for years.

We need to be there for one another right now, and remain in conversation about the things that matter most. Emotionally, this is all very trying. But we are becoming the people we need to be, not only to handle this turbulence but to give birth to a new chapter on the other side of this. Birth is hard, not only laboring a child but also laboring a new sense of self.

The President will say whatever he says tonight, and then we’ll have a clearer view of what’s going to go down between now and November 3. We all know his hold on reality is tenuous, and that’s being charitable. It’s a dangerous moment we’re in but we’re going to handle this. There are too many good and decent people in this country for me to believe for even one second that we won’t.

Keep your eye on the horizon. We are birthing a new world.
