The spiritual dimension to a successful resistance

I have a close friend who has a lot of wealth and power. Recently he and I were looking at a video of ICE raids and as he gazed at the screen he said to me, “I would spend all my money and use all my power if I thought I could crush those motherfuckers.”

What ensued was a deep dive into the metaphysics of this moment. All my friend’s money and all my friend’s power cannot “crush those motherfuckers,” who planned this ambush for at least 25 years while those who should have been an ever vigilant bulwark against fascism whiled away the hours. Hitler said towards the end of the war, “The only way they could have stopped us would be if they had come at us early, swift and hard.” Ha! We didn’t even come after them at all.

Now, of course, we’re at a point where the corporate authoritarians have effectively got this thing sewn up. They didn’t even invade in the dark of night. They invaded in the light of day. And even then, our defenses fell like tin cans.

So for those who are willing to wipe the smirk off their pseudo-sophisticated still-believing-Schumer-can-handle-this faces, there’s an entirely different conversation to be had now. We can’t beat their system, because they’ve neutered the Constitution (John Roberts this is all on you, babe). They are are a completely lawless crowd, and the Supreme Court has given them the permission to be that. We can’t beat their system. We have to hack it. And the only way to hack it is to override it.

Think about the pictures we saw regarding the evolution of the species when we were children. We saw an ape, and then the ape began to walk upright, and finally on the far right side of the page we saw a standing homo sapiens! The implication, of course, is that homo sapiens as we now know ourselves is the be all and end all of creation.

But in fact, that standing picture of homo sapiens belongs in the middle of the page. The next stage is the arms raised to about 45 degrees, which means “I am totally defenseless.” Then the arms continue lifting into a kind of “Hallelujah” position, using our arms as a kind of spiritual antennae for receiving the illuminations of a Higher Power. Next stage? We grow wings.

Okay, now hear me out. This means something. It’s about the evolution of our species and the expansion of our consciousness. Neither my friend’s money nor his worldly power can achieve the goal of eradicating the threat of corporate authoritarianism, but his consciousness can. As his consciousness lifts to a place where he realizes himself more as a spiritual than as a material being, he’ll look at his money and power differently. Not as who he is, but only as tools he has with which to do Love’s bidding. The truth of this moment is deeply counterintuitive.

We all know Einstein’s words that we won’t solve the problems of the world from the level of thinking we were at when we created them. Well, it’s time to make that line a whole lot more than a screen saver. It means we need to adopt a completely different psychological operating system, if we’re to keep humanity from falling into the abyss of a technologically driven, surveillance managed, dystopian age of modern barbarism. And we need to do it now.

So back to my friend. According to A Course in Miracles, enlightenment is a shift in self-perception from body identification to spirit identification. This means that as long as he identifies himself as man (which he is), white (which he is), rich (which he is), or powerful (which he is), he is actually limiting his spiritual power by limiting his sense of self. Those things are worldly manifestations, and most excellent ones at that, but to the extent to which that is who he thinks he is he will be unable to rise to the level of mental frequency necessary to override the darkness. The idea that we are separate from each other is the darkness, and any description of ourselves in which we see ourselves as separate anyone else is by definition not the deepest truth of who we are. At the deepest level, none of us are a particular sex, race, or anything else. We are spirit, not bodies. We are united, we are one. And only at the point of the deepest truth of who we are will we gain the power to override the darkness. Only at the point where we rise above the current consciousness of earth will we have the power to heal its wounds.

That’s the spiritual point of everything happening today. We are evolving into our higher selves.

There is no strategy, no business plan, no rational formula that alone can beat them at this point. They are very good at what they do. They are aggressive and fast moving, and so must we be. On the material plane, we must remain politically active of course. There are judges, Senators, Congresspeople, and most importantly brave, heroic individual Americans who are fiercely resisting the madness every day. But none of that alone will do it. We need an army of spiritual warriors for this one. Imagine winged white horses flying through the sky. And see yourself on one of them.

What does that mean? It means, number one, that meditation and prayer are required. The Dalai Lama once said that in order to save the world we must have a plan, but “no plan will work unless we meditate.” When we meditate, we literally shift brain waves. We begin to recalibrate our mental filters, aligning them with the self-correcting mechanisms of nature. At that point, we simply see the world differently. We’re not trying to “figure out” how to fight - excuse me, but I just have to say it - the dark psychic force of collectivized hatred. The mind turned away from love is not neutral; it is a death machine. The only antidote that can take that on is the light psychic force of collectivized love.

So you begin to live your life differently. You wake each morning and pray, “What would Love have me do?” And you mean it. The answers you get for your life begin to seem very different. Almost irrational, but not really. Simply nonrational. The guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Voice for God, for Divine Intelligence or whatever you want to call it, jumps the timeline. You get these wild and crazy notions that you know in your heart represent some deeper knowing, but you can’t believe you’re supposed to do that. Though then again you know in your gut that that’s exactly what you should do. You know it’s what you really long to do. Were even born to do. It’s sort of strange, but then why not….?

It’s a new you, after all. You’re growing your wings. And only a new you can create a new world.
