There are objective, discernible laws of the inner life just as there are objective, discernible laws of the outer world. Learning the laws of metaphysics empowers us in navigating the world as we know it. Spiritual laws are abstract principles with very practical effects.
Primary among those laws is this: Every thought is a cause that creates an effect. There is no such thing as an “idle thought,” and there is no such thing as a neutral thought. All thought creates form on some level; in order to change the world in fundamental, permanent ways, we must change the nature of our thinking.
A change in our thinking changes the way our lives unfold. In fact, our greatest power to change the world lies in our power to think about it differently. When we shift our thinking in the direction of love - choosing blessing over blame, forgiveness over grievances, and any thought of love over fear, we align ourselves with a power that is not of this world.
Something “not of this world” means something beyond the matrix of thinking that dominates this world. The world as we know it is but a shadow, cast by a fear-based thought system that locks us within a perceptual prison. By shifting our perception we can break free of it. And that is a miracle: a shift in perception from fear to love.
It’s often said in Alcoholics Anonymous that “your best thinking got you here.” The only thing to be “saved” from is the insane, fear-based thinking that dominates this world, and salvation begins when we consider the possibility that there might be a better way.
