For myself, and I believe for many others, this is no longer a political issue but an ethical one. We The People simply don't treat other human beings with utter disregard for basic human rights.
We The People do have the power within us, we always have. So, we got bamboozled for a bit. We made a mistake, and mistakes can be corrected. Just like the song says....

Breakdowns open futures we couldn’t access before. They expose what no longer works, what’s rotten, what’s unsustainable. Only then does the collective have enough clarity—and enough pain to respond.
Trump and his gang didn’t create the dysfunction; they exposed it. They revealed how fragile our systems were: trust, truth, institutions, elections, information, governance. Once the breakdown was undeniable, people could finally see what needed to be rebuilt.
