I completely agree Marianne. I knew when this regime got voted in that the biggest grief for me was likely to be the radical acceleration of environmental destruction. I've got a piece in the works capturing this. AND, I also agree that just voting for democrats wouldn't be a real fix. So far, they too, have been enslaved by the corporatocracy and have lacked the courage to meet this moment in humanity's insanely out of whack relationship with the rest of nature. The full-on assault against nature of this regime is much more far-reaching that most people are aware of. AND the spiritual and moral failing of most of us is also utterly pervasive. My great hope, and what my work strives toward, is that these dark times will catalyze a genuine consciousness shift and system change.
In my better moments, I think the best part of Trump and ilk is that it has woken up the opposition and the energy and motivation that is needed to birth Democracy 2.0.
I wrote this a couple of years ago for Earth Day. Many of my poems come to me in dreams. Maybe not the exact words, but the imagery and feelings that I sort of channel out through my pen. Each year I fear that this « dream world » is going to…disappear as we continue to destroy it.
In the last year, I’ve noticed something significant in the blue skies of East Central FL. The lower level clouds no longer look like puffs of white cotton. Instead they have a gray-pink-brownish tint. I can’t help but think it’s all the rocket launches. I have researched the emissions from these space craft and the Falcon 9 Rocket of SpaceX is the worst of all. According to science it’s the atmospheric upper levels like the mesosphere and the thermosphere which is being affected, buy build up of, black carbon soot & dioxide.
These clouds look dirty. Not bright & white. It’s not like they used to be.
I live 40 miles from Cape Canaveral where the rockets are launched, and it’s constant. I think there were 2 in one day yesterday or the day before.
In addition, the thrust shakes the earth core, I wouldn’t doubt if it affects earthquakes. Also…. each & every SpaceX - Falcon 9 launch, the deluge uses 180,000 gallon of water.
That’s a lot of water, and where do the toxins go… into the water, into to ground, into the ocean.
Thank you for sharing your observations and the effects of all those rocket launches. Sorry you and all the folks in that area are exposed to all those toxins , too.
Yes, I filed a case with the EPA, never heard another word other than the confirmation of my case. Now Elon talks about getting rid of NASA, which is totally insane. Why should he have the monopoly of space exploration. Even Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin) has beef with Musk for occupying the launch pad.
It’s the great space race & it’s not going away. I just all of them would consider the effects on Mother Earth & humans. MODERATION!
“The only thing stronger than a liar with conviction is a truth teller with conviction” Thank you for that profound nutshell Marianne. My heart too is breaking at the devastation being caused to our planet through greed and ignorance. I’m so very grateful that there are people like yourself who use their platform to be a truth teller with conviction 🙏🌱💚
What people don’t fully understand is that when the planet is sick, we are sick. If plants go, we die. We are 100%dependent on the living world around us. Thank you for the strength of your voice Marianne. I am trying to strengthen mine. Women’s voices, in general, need to get a whole lot stronger. Patriarchy needs to die, NOW. It is women, first and foremost, who need to kill it, stop enabling it. Women as a force need to wake up if we want a future for our children.
Fitting, strong and truthful sentiments, imo, on Earth Day. Thank you, as always, for your voice.
Along the lines of your concern for our trees and climate, there's a man in India named Sadhguru. He's quite sage and one of the most peaceful and jolly people you'll ever meet. He's been running many volunteer-based programs for years, and a specific campaign for years called Save the Soil. He's been anticipating the need for food security in his ever-growing country. We can learn much from his program and even implement something like that here in the States, and there's every reason to practice these habits in our own yards and gardens. His efforts have actually extended worldwide.
Sadhguru is on a mission to plant 2.42 Billion trees, of which he and his organization, Isha Foundation, have already planted millions! The project centers on Agroforestry in a particular region which focuses on planting trees in farmers' fields, combining agriculture with forestry to improve soil health, water retention, and farmer income. Apparently, we mostly need to have enough nutrients in the uppermost layer of soil.
Marianne, you mentioned the color of trees have degraded, and along with that so have the flavor and nutrients of our fruits and vegetables. We'd likely now have to eat 5 apples a day, not just one, to keep the doctor away!
I know you and all of us have been disappointed by politicians with no long-term game plan, motivated by short-term successes, based wrongly on fear of criticism or due to a lack of ideas or guts. The leaders failed to keep their eye on the measuring stick - the feedback of The People. The numbers and readouts are only part of the equation.
One other thing, and I suspect you know this as well, and you may have even said it before, that though mistakes in judgment were made in the past I don't know that anything other than this moment, and these conditions in which we find ourselves, would have brought so many Americans to be more actively involved in the politics of the day. These times have served as a catalyst for us to awaken and become better armed with factual talking points with which to better verbally combat extreme viewpoints and to possibly bring them to a more moderate way of thinking. We have moved a good deal away from that all-too-entrenched "us and them" polarized beliefs the two main parties were in. And we now have access to more truth than ever with Snopes.com and factcheck.org and we're more keen to the lies and disinformation still being spewed as it's all out in the open in full view.
And yes, the DNC and Dems still have much work to do. Write a few have shown signs of working independently on some matters dear to The People, but they do not seem to have a collective approach, but maybe this is not the time for that. We need a deep bench of candidates to offer to the voters in 2026 so I think many of us will need to find courage to stick our necks out. It won't be enough to vote out the GOP statues in the House and the Senate in the midterms! We have to bring fresh faces with fresh new ideas to both bodies of Congress and regain control while continuing to find and prepare new candidates to run for POTUS and locate the best people for cabinet heads, while keeping the public updated along the way. Nevermore, can we allow a disconnect between our sitting officials and their accountability to the voters. Consider running for office at any of the local, state of federal levels. Whatever we do we must never fall asleep or fall prey to numbing tactics or divisive rhetoric again, and if we start to feel the confusion in the air, we lift the phone and talk to who's in charge, state our case and get the clarity we deserve. If we don't like what we hear we say so, and keep saying so because THAT'S what the lobbyists are doing! And we can't let our voices be drowned out by theirs!
Thanks to Marianne for laying out such a great campaign platform and environmental plan from which anyone can borrow!
Bravo !!! … Now that you’ve taken the gloves OFF … Please KEEP THEM OFF !!! … regardless of whether or not you run for office again … This Country NEEDS YOUR VOICE !!!
Through the clarity of your experience and wisdom, MW, you ran for president in 2024 and offered common sense solutions to common sense environmental problems that promised to mitigate against the damage already sustained and also reverse much of its effects. Of course, that was too radical for those who sort of wanted to protect the environment. You laid it out perfectly in your piece here. Thank you.
And a big CONGRATS to winning that Supreme Court seat for Riggs!!! That was looking like a whole "thing!"
It's terrible that her opposition was able to create such an uproar about those certain mail-in ballots from only the left-leaning area! even after 3 counts of the votes! Can anyone say "suspect?" I wish there was a way to CURTAIL those kind of false allegations about mail-in ballots. Looking to find and verify the last of those 6,000 votes out of the almost 70,000 questioned would have proven quite difficult. Saved by another wise judge, thankfully!
The realization of where we are with the climate is a difficult truth. Yes, we need to stand up for Mother Earth whenever possible. Thank you for continuing to shine your light!
Here’s a handclap for Courage is Contagious. Some new wind blowing. A stunned multitude, without a leader, challenged to operate a body without a head, is starting to stir. Time for your Mandela quote again!
Agree completely. I 'made the mistake' of reading the entire Y2K IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change,) and life hasn't been the same. I am now aware of a great pall that hovers over the world, a cumulonimbus of the coming storm, as the systems that hold this glorious gift of a planet in the impossible Goldilocks zone.
To that end, I began producing a performance called EARTH DAY Cabaret, a celebration of Earth, the Great Mother, in poetry, music, and storytelling, in Los Angeles, and an investigation into where we've gone wrong. I've brought marvelous performers together who give of their time & talents out of a sense of mission. It's a tough sell.
I've asked myself why, and I've concluded people don't move out of their comfort zone without a passion for the Big Change necessary to have an effect. But we're so deeply enmeshed in the capitalist rut, the zero-sum game of the Broligarchs, and so self-medicated with infinite distractions, well, let's defer to Wordsworth here:
The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;—
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
And it's far worse now than in 18th century England, even with the horrific effects of the Industrial Revolution in play then. Now, we've gravitated to the urban centers and lost touch with the ground of being--our connection with the greater life of spiritual connection.
In the aggregate, we don't love Earth enough to save her. Not yet. And we must rectify that.
About the Gatekeepers, Marianne. yes, Yes, YES! Al Gore's campaign for president was torpedoed by his handlers and pundits, with their focus on poll-driven data. We're all tired of the milquetoast Democrats, the kinder, more reasonable Corporatists. Time for a revolution in the Democratic Party.
Marianne, the best presidential candidate we have ever had in America.
From 2016 to 2024 because of you I got to learn what I know on politics and, unfortunately I also
learned the cruelty in it.
BTW: Thank you Marianne for the amazing job and policies you made. Your job was excellent, much so that they had to recur to the lowest levels to invalidate you and to make you invisible to the people who do not use social media.
Back to our planet:
“anyone who has read anything - or even looked out the window, or read a weather forecast over the last few years - has realized the planet is in trouble”
Absolutely.
A massive movement and strong support, along with the healing process (s) needs to be set and guided by every administration, worldwide. (America, we are running late)
My hope and surely the hope of many was in a 2024 responsible and humanitarian administration. But greed and ambition for power made it impossible for the most loving and humanitarian candidate we’ve ever had.
Now, the dismantling of our constitution, the continues threats, the late acts commited to immigrants and even to americans plus the lack of support to the middle and low class, sure have done enough noice to make americans stand together.
There is a lot of work and dedication to do for all of us.
While some of us walk, talk, post, pray, send letters or even support each other when we feel sad, we still have God!!
We don’t know everything but please don’t stop praying.
God is in control and his love for us is absolute and yet, we must express our willingness for individual and collective transformation .
Perhaps we can start with one written sign and keep sharing it until it forms a massive wave.
Dear God, we’re willing to transform and rid of old habits. Please take the power away from the wrong minds, worldwide, and help us set the right processes, plans, laws and rules, to restore our soil and to truly respect every living body in our planet.

Listen
Hear the brook babbling
The birds singing
Creating magical music
Look
See the pale green tapestry
Decorated with the many colors
Of blooming flowers and trees
Creating a mighty masterpiece
Breathe
Inhale the warm damp fragrance
Of Earth and air
Freshly cleansed by gentle rain
Creating an enchanting perfume
Feel
Raise your heart in gratitude
To The One, the Father in Heaven
To Gaia, the Mother of Earth
For these Creations
For this Rebirth
For this Springtime
