¨We are Loosing 60 Farms a Day!¨
MAYDAY! America’s Food System Is Collapsing 21min
Kim Iversen Oct 18, 2025
¨President Trump says America’s farmers are “going to be making a fortune,” yet family farms are disappearing while corporate agribusiness grows richer than ever. Former Missouri Lieutenant Governor and fourth-generation farmer Joe Maxwell exposes how Washington, Wall Street, and Big Ag rigged America’s food system—and what it will take to reclaim our food, our farms, and our freedom.¨
U.S. food and agriculture policies currently empower a handful of global corporations to control our food and farming system—at the expense of farmers, workers, and everyone who eats.
Mission
Farm Action is a nonpartisan, farmer-led watchdog organization advocating for accountability from both our government and large corporations within the agricultural sector.
Vision
We envision a fair, sustainable, and healthy food system that empowers farmers, workers, and rural communities to feed America
Values
We believe government should serve the public—not corporate interests. We’re not afraid to challenge the outsized power of agribusiness, and we work with honesty, collaboration, and the determination to win a food system that works for everyone
It’s confusing to find notes and quotes advocating for the Trump administrations agenda while at the same time advocating to stop him. RFK is confronting the food industry insisting on healthier more nutritious foods, less processing.
The Trump administration is also trying to protect farmland from being purchased by foreign governments.
From my perspective this No Kings thing seems uninformed and rudderless. It’s a feel good movement to validate self righteousness. Trump was elected, not crowned, by the majority of American voters. It was done through a democratic process. (Btw I contributed to Marianne’s campaign)
In three years we’ll have another chance. I would focus on policy rather than protest. In other words, trying appealing to people’s intellect rather than their emotions.
Correct, I don’t believe most voters were voting for a King but I’m not sure anyone was prepared for a manipulator who would use his money and connections to intimidate anyone who stood in his way while he blatantly disregarded the constitution and our laws, effectively behaving like a “king” (or more accurately, a dictator). Many of us are very concerned that the few brave souls willing to stand up to him at risk to their jobs, livelihood or worse will all eventually give up or give in (many already have) and so WE THE PEOPLE need to make it clear that WE will not allow our democracy and hard won freedoms to be lost because so many are at best apathetic or afraid and at worst, support an autocratic government where their personal beliefs are forced on the whole. None of this was really about “A King,” it was reminder of what we stand to lose if we don’t stand up now to any attempt to attack our democratic way of life.
Yes but can you tell me how you will bring about change? From what I can tell this movement is about feelings and grand statements about freedom and totalitarianism and fascism and several other isms.
If you were interviewing for the presidency what how would you bring about the changes you would like?
And we did interview two a year ago and liked one more than the other. By quite a margin.
First, we need to be honest about what is really going on. The current environment makes this extremely difficult. Yesterday was about encouraging awareness that there IS a problem so we can address it. If the majority is in denial, we could vote tomorrow and nothing would change.
No one knew the Berlin Wall would come down in one day either. We the people are becoming “we” and that’s a healing needed before any thing else of value can be restored. That’s the No King movement - it’s us, as a “we” the people. The divisive agreement we’ve had with our differences has a wound bigger than a Donald Trump experiences. This is a healing from the inside out so we can have a healthy birth and not abort this life that’s in each of us as a life-force to be felt and accepted and not a king to be obeyed. Just me… thinking out loud.
Thanks for this comment. But in my experience- I was out all day yesterday and I’m 81 so I’m feeling it today!- the No Kings Day in Denver felt enormously purpose, not rudderless. I met people as young as 19 and old folks like me and lots in between: we all care so much about freedom and democracy and we talked about what those words mean. Not rudderless. Purposeful. And I, who read a lot and sometimes think people are uninformed, was surprised and delighted at hie much people knew about history . And cared. Marianne’s vision of the staircase helped me. Because if we all get in that staircase, soon we’ll have leaders who will seriously and with good will address the food problem. RFK— Caroline Kennedy told us all we need to know about him.
I’m 75 and I was out and my heart was restored to hope that pairs well with youth! We can policy and we can a political party all we want - we’ve done that. The baby this world needs to deliver is one that’s birthed from experience and true labor pains. We are all in this as mid-wives to this birth. The No King movement is a movement of a body of people who are carrying the seed of hope that will be born out of this response to a suffocating reality of slavery /master relationship. No we will deliver this “baby” - all of us, as one. It’s not just a dream anymore- it too late - the baby is crowning. … the delivery room is getting ready. Not a king will be crowned, but a Moses who will come up against pharaoh’s army and be able to declare “Let my people go”. Like
Martin Luther King who had a dream - well, we are in his dream and we are waking up out of the dream of slavery and survival.
I’m glad you’re living an active and purposeful life at 81! Incredible. We might disagree on some thoughts but you are an inspiration to me. I hope I’m as vital. I hope your heart stays passionate.
My heart of course will stay passionate. ❤️What would make me really happy is if you would open your mind to see that the danger we are facing is a group of extremely cynical people who provoke us to argue among ourselves while they siphon off all the resources. I think you are among the thoughtful and caring people w a heart— and so it’s up to us to NOT quibble, to NOT get lost in the weeds , but to see our sights on getting rid of liars and grifters. Which is this ridiculous Republican administration.
We are definitely in this together. Like it or not. We might disagree and I might think that both parties and all of Washington is corrupt and you have a different view. Both OK and the tension between the two keeps us in the middle. That’s the thing that is lost I think. Your opponents view will counter yours and the result is governance from the middle. That sounds like a successful democracy.
Anyway I admire your vitality and need to make a difference. Keep paddling. ❤️
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." I am waking this morning after the NK demonstration, with these words of Dr. Martin Luther King. And I'm wondering ... what sort of signs and messages reflect love and light?
Dr. King had a dream of the beloved community. Our task at this moment is to call that forth. Spewing anger, or meeting ugliness with ugliness, labels with labels will not start a conversation.
I carried words of the Pledge of Allegiance with me yesterday and would happily do so anywhere I go, confident no one would flip me off give me a thumbs down or shake their heads in anger.
"I pledge allegiance to liberty and justice for all, and one nation under God."
You had the Govts pledge, but I am sure it was the love you felt and feel that kept you safe.
I would only pledge allegiance to God (to God and not to the nation State's twisted notions of what "liberty and justice" are in its rules ie legislation).
NOKings was a controlled opposition protest.
It was to get you to say you are not kings.
You are the King of your Kingdom.
The real Kings then go and register their vote with govt and vote for the Nation State(Govt).
The nation State appoints a president ( that the people believe is their King/ruler)
Democracy is very old dogma.
George C said it best when he said" He who counts the vote counts" and " If voting changed anything the nation State( Govt ) wouldn't let you do it"
The bottom line is the needed paradigm shift from fear to love.
I was in Salisbury, England yesterday, reading the original Magna Carta, which is in Salisbury Cathedral. In the main square, there was a small, but energetic, No Kings/Save Gaza demonstration.
I was at a small event in Central Massachusetts and frankly, was shocked by how many cars flipped us off. I mean, Massachusetts? WTH. People shook their heads, some shouted nasty things out the window.
I am grateful the event had a nice turn-out and for some people it was the 2nd event of the day.
It was great a lot of people wore costumes. Very uplifting for me, I know.
Chicago was great. I came with love and left with a feeling of optimism and motivation to do more. I was privileged to march and hang out with some people who had worked to reunite families with children at the Mexican border, who had worked to find housing and employment for Afghan refugees, who deliver groceries and otherwise assist those who are currently afraid to leave their house. So many inspirations. I want to find ways to be a greater extension of God's Love. Keep writing and motivating us all.
In the red town in Florida where I live, so many were out protesting and normally we do not hear cars honk here. But yesterday there was a concert. I have hope. I believe many who have felt alone and scared do not feel as alone any longer. It is a ripple effect. I think yesterday was a beginning of a sunami that will wipe out the fascists in power. They may think their money can save them but mother Nature is stronger. Our souls are connected to that earthly and heavenly force. Let us keep the energy growing.
I heard somewhere...maybe from you...that there is an outer America and an inner America...the outer one is being destroyed and becoming cruel but the regime will not conquer and win the hearts of the inner America. It is good, holy and beautiful to see so many people following their heart.
What I meant to say is that the democrats and independents are fighting for healthcare for Americans!!
Republicans want tax cuts for billionnaires! The shutdown has occurred as Republicans are refusing to give affordable healthcare to all.
More shall be revealed. Thank you to every American who loves our country enough to show up for peaceful protest across this country. No Kings seems like a very polite way of referring to what is happening to our country from the Oval Office down.
We The People United for America.
Practice our peaceful protest every day.
Put Our Faith In Action.
Calls, cards, letters, presence,
Indivisible groups, neighbor groups, city groups.
We Must Never Give Up.
It is our time to fight for this country.
Thank you to each who made their presence known yesterday.
I look forward to seeing your interviews here on ss.
Speaking of healthcare I could only watch from a hospital bed. As a boomer in 2025 with a Medicare supplement insurance I focused on my heart rate and rhythm rather than my finances.
I loved all your interviews from the protest Marianne . So great !

What an absolutely brilliant and spot-on metaphor! Right on all counts including the labor pains. The only way to real wisdom.

Thank u so much for this conversation. Truly.
Btw I may be 81 but I never (really) understood why the rule of law was so beautiful. Until recently.
TBC (ti be cont)
All US presidents are appointed.
Democracy is pure dogma, its a politically invented concept that people are now starting to see through.
Its just like slaves voting for a master and believing they are free.
Did you watch the video above AP3? If not, please do it.
