MAYDAY! America’s Food System Is Collapsing 21min
Kim Iversen Oct 18, 2025
¨President Trump says America’s farmers are “going to be making a fortune,” yet family farms are disappearing while corporate agribusiness grows richer than ever. Former Missouri Lieutenant Governor and fourth-generation farmer Joe Maxwell exposes how Washington, Wall Street, and Big Ag rigged America’s food system—and what it will take to reclaim our food, our farms, and our freedom.¨
U.S. food and agriculture policies currently empower a handful of global corporations to control our food and farming system—at the expense of farmers, workers, and everyone who eats.
Mission
Farm Action is a nonpartisan, farmer-led watchdog organization advocating for accountability from both our government and large corporations within the agricultural sector.
Vision
We envision a fair, sustainable, and healthy food system that empowers farmers, workers, and rural communities to feed America
Values
We believe government should serve the public—not corporate interests. We’re not afraid to challenge the outsized power of agribusiness, and we work with honesty, collaboration, and the determination to win a food system that works for everyone
It’s confusing to find notes and quotes advocating for the Trump administrations agenda while at the same time advocating to stop him. RFK is confronting the food industry insisting on healthier more nutritious foods, less processing.
The Trump administration is also trying to protect farmland from being purchased by foreign governments.
From my perspective this No Kings thing seems uninformed and rudderless. It’s a feel good movement to validate self righteousness. Trump was elected, not crowned, by the majority of American voters. It was done through a democratic process. (Btw I contributed to Marianne’s campaign)
In three years we’ll have another chance. I would focus on policy rather than protest. In other words, trying appealing to people’s intellect rather than their emotions.
Thanks for this comment. But in my experience- I was out all day yesterday and I’m 81 so I’m feeling it today!- the No Kings Day in Denver felt enormously purpose, not rudderless. I met people as young as 19 and old folks like me and lots in between: we all care so much about freedom and democracy and we talked about what those words mean. Not rudderless. Purposeful. And I, who read a lot and sometimes think people are uninformed, was surprised and delighted at hie much people knew about history . And cared. Marianne’s vision of the staircase helped me. Because if we all get in that staircase, soon we’ll have leaders who will seriously and with good will address the food problem. RFK— Caroline Kennedy told us all we need to know about him.
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." I am waking this morning after the NK demonstration, with these words of Dr. Martin Luther King. And I'm wondering ... what sort of signs and messages reflect love and light?
Dr. King had a dream of the beloved community. Our task at this moment is to call that forth. Spewing anger, or meeting ugliness with ugliness, labels with labels will not start a conversation.
I carried words of the Pledge of Allegiance with me yesterday and would happily do so anywhere I go, confident no one would flip me off give me a thumbs down or shake their heads in anger.
"I pledge allegiance to liberty and justice for all, and one nation under God."
I was at a small event in Central Massachusetts and frankly, was shocked by how many cars flipped us off. I mean, Massachusetts? WTH. People shook their heads, some shouted nasty things out the window.
I am grateful the event had a nice turn-out and for some people it was the 2nd event of the day.
It was great a lot of people wore costumes. Very uplifting for me, I know.
In the red town in Florida where I live, so many were out protesting and normally we do not hear cars honk here. But yesterday there was a concert. I have hope. I believe many who have felt alone and scared do not feel as alone any longer. It is a ripple effect. I think yesterday was a beginning of a sunami that will wipe out the fascists in power. They may think their money can save them but mother Nature is stronger. Our souls are connected to that earthly and heavenly force. Let us keep the energy growing.
I heard somewhere...maybe from you...that there is an outer America and an inner America...the outer one is being destroyed and becoming cruel but the regime will not conquer and win the hearts of the inner America. It is good, holy and beautiful to see so many people following their heart.
Chicago was great. I came with love and left with a feeling of optimism and motivation to do more. I was privileged to march and hang out with some people who had worked to reunite families with children at the Mexican border, who had worked to find housing and employment for Afghan refugees, who deliver groceries and otherwise assist those who are currently afraid to leave their house. So many inspirations. I want to find ways to be a greater extension of God's Love. Keep writing and motivating us all.
What I meant to say is that the democrats and independents are fighting for healthcare for Americans!!
Republicans want tax cuts for billionnaires! The shutdown has occurred as Republicans are refusing to give affordable healthcare to all.
More shall be revealed. Thank you to every American who loves our country enough to show up for peaceful protest across this country. No Kings seems like a very polite way of referring to what is happening to our country from the Oval Office down.
We The People United for America.
Practice our peaceful protest every day.
Put Our Faith In Action.
Calls, cards, letters, presence,
Indivisible groups, neighbor groups, city groups.
We Must Never Give Up.
It is our time to fight for this country.
Thank you to each who made their presence known yesterday.
I look forward to seeing your interviews here on ss.
Speaking of healthcare I could only watch from a hospital bed. As a boomer in 2025 with a Medicare supplement insurance I focused on my heart rate and rhythm rather than my finances.
At a community college in a suburb of Kansas City, we had several thousand, carrying signs, visiting booths with important information, listening to diverse speakers and lining the street. Some were in animal costumes, adding a festive air. All were nonviolent and uplifting. Downtown KC had even more. These rallies were organized mostly by women, exhibiting the power of women coming to the forefront with extended hands NOW!
P.S. My favorite sign was: "Don't make me repeat myself." --History
I loved all your interviews from the protest Marianne . So great !

We do know that it was at least 2 million more attending than the last No Kings rally. We are the majority.

POWERFUL, Sister Marianne! 🙌
I was at the first one — this time, I marched in Spirit while working for the rent. But the PEOPLE are done waiting.
We’re wide awake. We’re DONE being used.

Thank you Marianne. We press on!
We await, and in the meantime, I offer energetic revolution.
I think if Jesus were here...he would surely overturn the tables. No true Christian can be in accord with Trump.
