I have faced down powerful men, and their female enablers, at the local level of the Navajo Nation, when it involved the abuse of children. Twice, the Superintendents of the school district in which I worked were apologists for the abusers. I didn't care about their status then, and I don't care about the status of the abusive class now. They are flesh and blood, same as the rest of us. Bring them to justice!

Indeed, Gary; plus, the so-called Christian schools for the First Nation children has been a nightmare for many over decades. I appreciated hearing your words. Joan

Yeah. We need to look at the extent and the kinds of corruption that create and sustain systems of slavery: sex slavery, wage slavery, trafficking laborer slavery, etc. ad infinitum. And of course, as Yoko Ono cried out so many years ago "Women are the niggers of the world." She said niggers for shock effect and because she is Japanese, but what she meant is slaves. You are a woman of wisdom and insight, heart and courage. So let us now take this moment to acknowledge not only the surface but the root of the problem. In case anyone else has had their heart shredded by the recognition that the drive behind the degradation and exploitation has names other than greed, unbridled capitalism, male hegemony, et. al. It also goes by the name egoic delusion, and in more ancient cultures, unmitigated evil. So yes, we desperately need societal and economic reform, so that we aren't so downtrodden that we have no opportunity to explore our inner being and take steps to open to our wider, truer, and more heart centered true selves. Some have posited that we are at the turning of the wheel of time, on the edge of the dawn of a new and more enlightened age, and perhaps that is true. At any rate, to be true to those of us who have looked most clearly at our eternal struggle to evolve, we must also ask the deepest questions: who are we, really, and what makes life worth living?

Rebecca Suzanne's avatar

Yes, I agree with Susan. Your case is very well stated.

What you said here, "sex slavery, wage slavery, trafficking laborer slavery, etc. ad infinitum," is like the bottom line for me.

There are so many ways that the powerful have abused those with less or no power.

It has been hard for me to understand why it took this particular issue to get Congress to develop, or at least demonstrate, a moral compass when there are so many abuses of power inflicting pain on so many every second of every day.

I don't know the answer to my own question. But I am thankful and grateful they took notice.

Now, the assignment for all of us seems to be to make sure the powerful face their errors, atone, make justice prevail anD NEVER, NEVER, NEVER turn a blind eye toward ANYONE EVER AGAIN!!!

"why this issue to develop a moral compass?"

Because it was not moral, it was political, for politicians. First the right thought that it gave them a political advantage, then the left. But the latent morality in we humans took it from them and they lost control........progress. Never give up, you never know when the damned will break?

Rebecca Suzanne's avatar

That is a really interesting take, Mark. You might just be right about that.

I wish we could figure out a way to get them to respond to labor rights, economic and ecological justice in the same way.

God bless you, my friend!

Marianne I was waiting for your perspective on this. Once again, you’ve expressed your thoughts beautifully and truthfully. Much appreciated. It’s time for the elevation of women and women’s wisdom.❤️

Joan Halgren's avatar

Agree Ellen! It seems we gain a few steps forward; then, fall back again! "When will we ever learn, when will we ever learn."

Yes, the current version of exploitive, extractive capitalism coupled with an amoral sense of white, wealthy privilege is a truly destructive and evil force. We actually have a caste system in America. I appreciate that you have focused on this piece. I haven't heard anyone else point out the economic inequality aspect of the Epstein horrors.

I wrote about the broken and brutal economy in a recent post --https://cylviahayes.substack.com/p/our-broken-and-brutal-economy.

Epstein survivor Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir exposes abuse by powerful men…(PBS for more info) There are videos of many women who came forward and have yet to truly be heard about the rape, trafficking and horrors they went through…. We will not stop until justice is done! Sending peace, healing, strength, courage, justice and love out into the world…. Knowing together we Can and Will make a difference!❤️🕯️☮️🕉️🙏🏼❤️

Girls absolutely do not matter th such men, or to any men. Girls are for their pleasure and msny moms are complicit because they want a good life for their daughter they believe they are doing what's best for her. I know this fr9m experience and its probably worse then they admit.

Charlotte,

Thanks for your honesty and being brave to mention unmentionables!

That read like a documentary - a Bible- a current event - corruption and the human condition overall. If we had to forecast this as a means that would be used to take down a political-financial and criminal system - we would have thought there wouldn’t be enough force for it to have much effect. But we’re in a season of long a waited justice and this was the perfect layered event to inspire action by the people who have made assumptions that our government could not possibly be covering the crimes and corruption that has been ALLOWED - ALLOWED - ALLOWED. This is a perfect storm and for the first time, in a long time, I actually have hope. So good Marianne.

Revive our conscience and educational opportunities for all! What a lost world we have become. May every heart unite in pure awareness and courage for a Truth holds us all, compassion and Justice for all. Whew! Thank you Marianne for turning the light up…

Patriarchy should be recognized as a terrorist group globally. Their anti-female beliefs are just as evil as any anti-Semite beliefs!

SIGH.The entire 'system' MUST change! the way we think and speak! We must embody our Sacred heart. This void of compassion from rich white men whose greed/lust choke the beauty and spirit out of this nation is staggering...DO THEY NOT SEE?! Millions of us are weeping ourselves into the future while we HOLD ONTO the Truth of Light, Love in the Eternal Unified Field.

"We need to look at our continued acquiescence to a system that allows far too much pain to be inflicted on the powerless by the powerful". So many lines I could remember yet this one sticks out.

Thank you, Marianne. The complexity of the examples and situations in the post have given the community so much space to relate and share. God bless you.

Marianne, yet again, tells it like it is....this time about Epstein and the wider implications previously not mentioned in the news. We the People have been asleep far too long. Every person, every being matters. Until we are raising our awareness, and our young to believe it and act with love the system will continue the brutal way it is. Any abuse, no matter how small, we must speak out against and promote kindness with love.
