Yes. He earned my respect and love because he was one of so few leaders who knew humans are not the only species on the planet who matter.

He preached kindness for anyone and everyone, including the feathered, scaled, and furry.

Rest in Peace, dear Papa. πŸΎπŸ•ŠοΈ

Thank you, Marianne. This is beautiful. Robert Reich had a lovely piece on the late pope as well, today. I have a candle to the late John Paul on an altar at home. It sits on the same altar as a statue of Thoth, a small pyramid jewelry box, and a beautiful blue spiral reminiscent of the Hand of Fatima. One time a Thanksgiving guest passed the altar and noticed the candle. "Why do you have a candle to the Pope," he asked. "You are not Catholic. Besides, he was just a man." 'He was a very good man,' I said. The activism of the Popes in recent years is demonstration why religious leaders must speak out on public policies around the world. It is why groups of spiritual leaders from various traditions will come together to take action on important issues of the day. It was the kind of faith-in-action the late Martin Luther King, Jr. talked about and encouraged. Bless this late Pope. May his teachings help to change the world and end human suffering.

Wonderfully Written! … I especially liked the part where the Pope directed his deputy to give J.D. Vance an hour long lecture on empathy and compassion !!!

Beautifully said, "You did not have to be Catholic to sense his holiness or to be grateful for his wisdom."

His presence will be missed by everyone who loved his radical truth telling, his ability to see through and be stern on organized crime, and most importantly of all his unique and wonderful way of serving God will be truly missed.

I agree. Pope Francis was probably the best Pope there has ever been in the Catholic Church. I hope the next Pope is as compassionate and humble.

God bless you for your words, which perfectly express my sentiments. He was the seventh pope in my life and I am thankful for the hope he gave the world, when it was most needed.
