Thank you for this and for raising awareness of this so often overlooked trauma.
Ancient philosophers coined the term "Cosmopolitanism". This was the belief that everything in the universe, including every human being, is part of a sacred whole. We’re all in this together as citizens of a single world-city. This concept was tied to the notion of justice, as justice entails the application of wisdom, kindness, and fairness in our relationships with others both individually and collectively. The ancients believed that nature intended human beings to actively help one another, aka “the needs of the many”.
I love how this message is tied into the natural order of things. Our departure from and destruction of the natural world needs to be corrected asap or nothing else will matter very soon.
Thanks for this message about loneliness. For me, the cure for loneliness, isolation and even alienation is recognizing (in my head and heart) my deep oneness with the whole, which I call a "global sense" of life (aka interconnectedness or interdependence)
Blessing on you for all the inspiration and wisdom you've shared across the years.

I finally realized that to the extent that you are a good person, those who have spent their lives suppressing their own conscience will feel threatened by you. And there is nothing that you can do about it because it is their own, repressed guilt that you are making them aware of. Jesus never did an unloving thing, so they had to kill him out of their guilt. But, there is nothing else to do. It just comes with the territory of never doing anything if there is anyone in the world that you do not want to find out about it. Many will hate you. Why are women not attracted to good men? They are more comfortable with a rogue who will exploit others.
I must be a very toxic person, judging by the way people run away screaming when I try to connect. I am not going to keep doing the same thing over and over, hoping for a different result. It is painful. It does please me to pray for people and desire for them to feel the unconditional love of God.
I read it when it was new. I have been doing the Course since the same age that you started, but I am three years behind you..........I recall commenting in the early 90's, when someone mentioned you, that you were one of my best friends. They said in surprise, "Oh, you know her?". I said, "Yes, I read her book"..........I feel like lifelong Course students know each other better than most spouses.
When I am in my most lonely moments, I remember that my health is returning after a very rough 5 years, my husband is with me, my son is healthy and I am blessed to be a part of this great universe. At my lowest, I contact a loved one who may be in a predicament or in a health crisis and it lifts me out of my dark moments.
Marianne, you have been a guiding light for so many and I appreciate your verve, tenacity, compassion, integrity and plain old common sense. Keep on keeping on... It uplifts us!
There are no laws governing human behavior, but let’s think of a logic about what we do. You’d be idiotic to argue for war as what brings human satisfaction and happiness. Thinking about how turned on to deeper truths we got during the wild days of the human potential movement. How to tune humanity in now? My answer for a best bet is for everyone to listen to you!
Yes—community is part of nature, and trees truly live in community. There is so much we can learn and heal through our connection with the natural world. I’ve found that building community around nature feels effortless and deeply aligned.
Thank you, Marianne, for this beautiful reminder. I experience nature as a gift from the Creator—and even if it’s part of the illusion, if it brings peace, connection, and love, then it is good.
I needed to hear this today. So much communication with people is randomly through a screen. I'm changing that slowly by reaching out with my voice and presence.
This is exactly why I am a subscriber. Thank you for this post!
Amen. For what wall is there to knock down but the one we imagine when we choose fear?

This is a difficult and painful topic.
I encourage people to think of the needs of others.
If there is an event, I think, does everyone have a ride home? Does everyone have a place to stay?
Then, I find myself wrestling with releasing others from judgement when others do not extend those same courtesies to me when I need them.
I like interacting with people, making them smile.
But so often, I pick up on the vibe that others are too busy, or preoccupied, or too stressed, or too whatever to engage in this manner.
I wrestle with holding myself accountable to myself, to feel complete without validation from others.
This is a tough one.

Very true. And very timely. Loneliness is literally killing me.
I think of you often, Pete. I'd love to connect. Please reach out to me.
🌈🥰♥️🫂🤗 you are loved 🌈💖💙
it feels like I have no time.... between work, bills , 😫 exercise, taxes.....
Exactly. That's the economic aspect of the problem. And when we emerge from this dark chapter, we MUST change that.

I hope you'll look at my book A RETURN TO LOVE. I pray with you that God remove the walls that separate you from others.

What a beautiful post! Thank you for always reminding us of who we are and what we are capable of, with love.
