The need for an integrative approach to healing our world
Our democracy is under assault. Our Constitution has been checkmated. We keep using the word “threat” - as in the “threat of authoritarianism” - because it’s too painful to admit the extent to which antidemocratic forces have already made good on the threat.
As an observer of American politics as well as a practitioner of the metaphysical arts, I dwell in my mind within a dramatic juxtaposition between what’s happening in the United States today and the infinite field of possibilities occurring naturally in the presence of love. I’m deeply aware that holding that juxtaposition, and navigating it, is the work to be done now.
Our democracy is over unless we work some kind of miracle. My well-known comment about the “dark psychic force of collectivized hatred” was an accurate description of the problem we face. I said then, and I say now, that only a Higher Power can beat this thing. But this is no Hallmark card prescription for how to defeat fascism. It’s more serious, strategic, and sophisticated than anything dreamed up by a bunch of twentieth-century thinkers clad in the tinfoil armor of political operatives.
Miracles even now are possible, but only if we’re willing to do the mind-opening and heart-opening work of spiritual transformation. Nothing less will rescue our democracy from the clutches of those intent on destroying it. Metaphysics says that consciousness precedes form — that what we are "being" participates in the ongoing creation of reality. Every thought, emotion, and declaration shapes the energetic field in which events unfold. When Being shifts — for example, from fear to trust, from resentment to gratitude, from confusion to clarity — it changes the resonance we project into that field. The “universe” (meaning the total field of possibility) responds coherently; it reorganizes to reflect that shift in state. In simpler terms: as within, so without. Change the state of consciousness, and the external world begins to realign accordingly. But where the change needs to happen is in each of our "beings." And change always involves risk. So Marianne Williamson lead the way. Leadership allows us to take that risk.
