A beautiful explanation of the dire straights our country is in and what we can do about it, as a community. The goodness necessary transcends specific differences of philosophy and religion. And, for me at least, it's all about a humanistic approach to others, with a realization that everything is impermanent. Wish you made it to be Prez, Marianne.

I continue to see the "bioregional (or local) sustainability" movement as a key "imaginative" work to build the "better world we know in our hearts is possible". This work fosters the "beloved community" that was Dr King's goal. Thank you so very much, Marianne. Your example and your wisdom encourage many day by day, as we do and must indeed get through this to be even better.

Marianne, this is the most cogent analysis of not only what's happened to us as individuals and as a nation. Your placement of spiritual malaise at the center of it is 100% correct, and what's more, your list of how we need to correct it is a healing boon we can not do without. I intend to pass it along to as many as I can. Many, many thanks for your courage and clarity.

So beautifully and clearly reviewed. As an immigrant and proud citizen, I deeply love our country. I have no other. I had honor of entering as a legal immigrant over 6 decades ago but now I'm afraid to travel outside the country. Will my naturalization papers going to be questioned because today many citizens are under scrutiny. Trump made vague threats last time insinuating that some of us had illegally obtained our citizenship, I've been paranoid since then. My Holocaust survivors parents taught me that we are never safe. Now there are honest hard working humans in hiding, never knowing when those masked men will take them away from a life they had built. "Nobody is illegal on stolen land". Love is the answer even during this information overload, in community we can endure

I know you do, this is my time to face my greatest fear as an adult when I see and feel the chaos. Your word are true, comforting and essential to keep our heads and our hearts on the path until a better day. Thank you Marianne.

You’re are the reason people are scared, stop fueling their fears with such falsehoods. You never ever look at what is really happening in detail. You make broad false statements that repeat the rhetoric.you need to get your head out of the sand.

This is what the majority voted for, and thank god!

Very powerful article and thank you, again, Marianne, for your courageous voice. Locally I am seeing more engagement from people who are realizing we must stand up to the current administration because this is not a monarchy. Everyone I've spoken with are amazed at the speed at which the dismantling of our system has been achieved and people are determined to make it known they do not agree with the trajectory. It gives me hope. Thank you for spelling out the steps we can take personally and collectively. Praying we can turn this around!

“But behind the anxiety lies a much more powerful - and in this case - positive emotion - fury - Moral outrage is not born of anger - but of love - Millions of us are morally outraged - and that’s exactly the power needed to create the momentum to push back”… And that’s what’s happening right now … Beautifully Written !!!

“We are Americans. We got this”

Since I was little I learned America has been known as a powerful country and for its humanitarian efforts and acts.

I always thought it was due to its government. Now I know it’s due to its people.

May God help us all. 🙏🏻

If only you could join these NEW principals and yourself to the Bernie Sanders/AOC progressive party. I think the name Democratic party is OUT. I feel the democrats have betrayed us over and over, especially not letting you go forward to compete w/ Joe. What a big mistake they made, and are STILL making with the choice they made for the new DNC leader, that you should have also been elected for. Why keep holding on to Old democratic ways, because as it seems, they weren't enough that we are this point after some tiny bits of progress. I say tiny, b/c other countries have solidified their rights as humans for far longer. LEAVE THE DEMOCNORATIC PARTY. Let's go PROGRESSIVE !!!

I agree whole-heartedly, America will prevail and come out on the otherside, more whole than ever before! As a daughter of Eastern European refuguees, I believe that we Americans will stand up because we simply don't have the temperament for this kind of power grab. I wrote the following article after the 2016 Election and I believe it holds true now, more than ever! https://www.elephantjournal.com/2017/01/five-reasons-why-americans-have-got-this/?fbclid=IwY2xjawKV6INleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETBJeEtLOTFpT3lSNGZoOHZkAR5-s2EuuLZzFE3ukF3y92vg8Fa3FrGmTRjD6vpsuLdl0XtwIUq0YVaVtyGJ2g_aem_KrCyD8PNmHW0_0O680PZmg

What I can do is BE the change I want to see in the world. I worked 40 years in the government watching it reinforce dependency on government programs and services because their funding is driven by the number of people being served. Our Health and Social Services System doesn't assist people to become self sufficient to move out of their dependency but is built to keep people in the system. Now that I have retired from that dysfunctional system - my focus is about assisting people to move from survival to thrive and focusing on building cooperation, collaboration, and partnership for win/win/win outcomes. That is a new model that our current government has no concept about because it operates in silo's with very little know-how to work cooperatively. It's time for a new model if we actually want our government to work FOR the people and BY the people.
