“We know who Donald Trump is … The question the answer to which will determine our future is, who are we? … The people we have been are the ones who created this mess … Only the people we are capable of being can transform it.” … Bravo … Well Written!!
The challenge ahead is immense, but the message is clear: it’s up to us now to change the trajectory. The future won’t be shaped by wishful thinking, but by our willingness to rise to this moment—personally, politically, and collectively. As the piece says so powerfully, we must grow within ourselves the vision of a new America. The question isn’t just what we’re fighting against—it’s who we’re willing to become. Thank you, Marianne, for keeping alive the call to who we must be and what this moment demands.
Thanks, Marianne! Here’s an interfaith coalition that just sprung up in nyc. I saw their poster on a signpost in my neighborhood this morning. They’re organizing weekly local protests all over the city. If you’re in nyc, all 5 boroughs, you might want to check it out:
Thank you Marianne. You are so capturing the moment. The best defense is a very strong offense — vision for where we are going. Incrementalism will not be the secret sauce, bold social change is needed now regarding human and planetary health and dignity. Let’s move!
We will need to dig deep and I believe people will find the fortitude to make the changes required such as making those phone calls to their representatives, speaking out when witnessing injustice, prioritizing their time to stand up for our country. Each time I've stood out holding a sign for the past 3 months, or today when in an in-person meeting, I've met at least one person who says they've never stood up for anything until now. The crowds are growing, people are getting motivated!
Thank you again, Marianne, for continuing to use your voice and your platform to inspire!
But... why did we not ask the 'Who are we?' question as we funded a genocide under Biden and Blinken? It is literally the 'crime of crimes'. Full stop.
Actually it started with Obama who didn't stop the first train robbery in 1873. Blaming is easy, let us even mention our arrogance thinking that this attack on our peace of mind, our commitment to serve everyone especially those facing very challenging economic times, health issues and supporting our aging adults is at risk. Politicians are too busy to work for us.
At what point DO you want to introduce the concept of accountability? Only when Trump is President? These efforts at constructing Trump as singularly destructive is a way of making ourselves feel better i.e. by coming down hard on the guy we hate and letting the guy we could sort of tolerate off the hook. Partisanship encourages this false binary. We should focus on the what (like, why did AOC stand on stage and tell a bald-faced lie about Harris' efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza?), not the who.
Everyone is accountable. We vote for those who seem to represent the values we cherish. Are we permitted to be alarmed when older persons are accused of committing fraud by receiving social security funds which we earned? How does the nation benefit when food banks don't get federal support? Calling families who struggle "freeloaders " does not represent our true spirit. Let us agree to disagree.
I always get a little nervous when you’re out of the country… Like you might emigrate from this crazy place on a whim!
We can’t afford to lose any more national treasures!
I was listening to a podcast at the grocery store yesterday, and the song God Bless America came on out of the blue, and I started crying right there in the produce section.
It’s very hard to be American right now…and I’m so grateful for all you’ve done and continue to do to try to save this country from itself. That’s REAL patriotism being modeled for the rest of us.❤️
In the 60’s when Johnson was supposedly waging his war on poverty I saw that no on felt that it was scary that 1% of the population held 99% of the wealth. 65 years later only a few politicians see this as a cancer. Nor do they feel it is crime that 25% of our citizenry especially our children go hungry some days of their lives. For many children summer vacation means less food. Imagine a vacation from food. Only removing Trump will not change this.
the silent majority - what Nixon called his base, was notorious for staying silent while Nixon schemed, when the country was in full of strife and despair.
I think the country will defeat Trump's plans to wreck the government but alot of decent innocent people are going to be abused before Trump is stopped
I’m rewriting this sentence Marianne- because as you’re concentrating on how love wins- I’m asking love to show me daily hourly breath by breath BTW I am so grateful for the hopefulness you give to so many - let’s do this

However Putin, or Russia, did not start the war in Ukraine. It may seem to be so, but it started in 2014 after the maiden revolution and the coup sponsored by the CIA. which, toppled, again, a democratically elected government, which, again, did not please the USA.
The USA are not America. I know one calls the USA America, but it is not. This tells a lot about the US people state of mind, consciousness, hubris even.
Quoting Madeleine Albright on Fascism may be correct. However she said, if I recall it well, that 500,000 dead caused by the US led embargo of Irak after 1991, was collateral damage or words to that effect, and a necessary evil. Such a despise of life. Life you "Americans' cherish so much, when it's "American". So no she is not a respectable reference in my opinion.
And as always you seem to conveniently forget the genocide the US are based on, all the treaties the US government broke one-sidedly once they were not to their advantage, regardless of the consequences for the other parties.
So yes the USA, as a system, may have some positive aspects to them, but this is dwindling fast, if it ever had them. The American Dream being just that a pipe dream becoming a possible reality for a very few leaving the many on three side.
And perhaps, despite what you are invoking, one is witnessing the end of an empire. It happened before in history. Many times.
You have a problem, a legitimate one, with the United States telling other countries what they should do and who they should be. Perhaps you might show the same humility and respect in how you view us.

¨Clearly, Victoria Nuland, US President Barack Obama's central agent overseeing the coup, at least during the month of February 2014 when it climaxed, was crucial not only in overthrowing the existing Ukrainian Government, but in selecting and installing its rabidly anti-Russian replacement...¨
He is right Marianne: ¨I'm an Iraqi and I Remember Madeleine Albright for Who She Truly Was
I remember the sanctions era in Iraq very well. And when the former U.S. secretary of state said the death of 500,000 children in the country "was worth it," I remember that too¨
It is clear to see the corruption, and greed that is dismantling the good structures that have been built since World War Two. They are building a structure of tyranny and leaving the few to rule the masses. This can’t stand.
With our hearts and dedication to our morals and the constitution of our country, that the few seek to destroy, we will build a better world.
The corrupt and powerful will rage against our strength, attempting to break our will, our bodies, our spirits. They may try, then they will have my broken shell but not my obedience.
That very well may continue until our love and example wins them over. We need to be ready to stand strong, united and sure of our convictions!
