My friend Lauren first recommended to me the book INTO THE MAGIC SHOP, and reading it was such a joy. I think the book is a classic and I’ve mentioned it to many, many people.
The book’s author, Dr. James Doty, passed from this world today. Jim had become a friend, and I’ve quoted him often about the relationship between the brain and the heart. He was a neursurgeon, neuroscientist, compassion researcher, and true adept at spiritual principles. He bridged worlds that desperately need bridging, and I know I’m not the only one who will want to keep sharing his wisdom with the world.
I’m sad we lost such a wonderful man. I pray for his family, for truly they lost a great love. But I’m sure he left them with the absolute knowledge that he lives forever in the palm of God’s hand. I see him smiling even now, and will always remember him as one of the best people I have ever known.
God Bless you always, Jim. Thank you for your extraordinary gifts of wisdom and of friendship. I’m more for having known you.
Dr. Doty wasn’t just another thinker with a brain full of facts. He was a rare kind: one who used his mind to serve the heart.
He knew the way forward wasn't in conquering the world with logic, but in softening it with presence. And he did. Over and over.
His book changed lives. His being changed rooms. He turned a neurosurgical career into a sanctuary of compassion, and countless people walked out of his words feeling seen for the first time.
Now he’s walked into the great quiet. Not gone—just beyond the noise.
Thank you, Jim. For remembering the heart when so many forgot.
