Dr. Doty wasn’t just another thinker with a brain full of facts. He was a rare kind: one who used his mind to serve the heart.
He knew the way forward wasn't in conquering the world with logic, but in softening it with presence. And he did. Over and over.
His book changed lives. His being changed rooms. He turned a neurosurgical career into a sanctuary of compassion, and countless people walked out of his words feeling seen for the first time.
Now he’s walked into the great quiet. Not gone—just beyond the noise.
Thank you, Jim. For remembering the heart when so many forgot.
This was an Amazing Life and an Amazing book … I have been involved in Magic for almost half of my life and “Real Magic”for most of my life … James Doty … who was interested in Magic … Discovers “Real Magic” as a boy which transforms the Trajectory of his Life and his parent’s lives … I am Thrilled that Marianne interviewed him and I am grateful that I was fortunate enough to have seen that interview … Thank You Marianne !!!
Very sorry to hear this. Dr. Doty was a wonderful human, and his work was a great gift to the world. What a legacy he leaves! Thank you, Marianne for bringing his work to my attention years ago.
RIP Dr Doty . I think he also , inspired by the Zen master Thay at Plum village , started research into the positive and healing effects of compassion(Love) at Standford https://ccare.stanford.edu/
Hopefully this will be the future when the spirit is combined with real science ( quantum physics discovery's we already know the principals of matter can be both a wave and particle, entanglement and non local) observations , looking inside to get insight .
In my 19 years fighting the Govts discrimination down under in NZ I see the desperate need for compassion in healthcare, as both Govt employees and patients suffer without it as a foundation for practice (...as well as in every aspect of life).
What happened is when we adopt corporate rule$ and notions and let them rule us, we become a disciple of death .
If you loved The Magic Shop, you may also love The Rocking Chair Prophet by Matthew Kelly. It was recommended to me the same way. Although it’s fiction it gave me a similar feeling to The Magic Shop.
It also has a beautiful message of healing from profound grief that can be passed on to other’s in order to heal themselves.
I'm sorry for your loss Marianne but I'm also grateful that he was able to offer so much to so many in his lifetime. It's important not to die with your music Still In You and it sounds like he was able to express his music in the world and I'm glad for his achievements. Thanks for sharing your message today
Oh Marianne I listened to your interview with Dr. Doty I think last year and I was so grateful, I went and read Into the Magic Shop! He is such a gift to us, so grateful for your conversation with him, I learned so much 🤗🤍 his last book is excellent too, Dr Doty will be missed
We lost an extraordinary man today. Marianne I send you love as I know how personal this is for you. Thank you for sharing the magnificence of his story with us all. His legacy lives on forever in our hearts.
What a loss this is for the world. He was a man who spoke from the heart as he encouraged us all to connect with ours. Sending love to you, Marianne. I know he was special to you.
