Hi, everyone.
Earlier today I did a Substack Live to read aloud the Declaration of Independence. I figure you can read the document yourself and I highly recommend that you do. Reading it aloud, possibly with friends or family, is a powerful thing to do.
Here is the video about the 250th that I posted yesterday, in case you missed it. It’s very important to consider what this day meant 250 years ago, and what it means today.
Rarely has the nation’s birthday occurred at such a momentous hour as the one we’re living through now. We are once again deciding, as Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address, whether a nation “conceived in liberty…can long endure.” The Civil War sorely tested that premise, as we are tested now.
Revisiting the spirit of our ancestors - their words and their actions - we are reminded of the spirit that lives in us. Our Founders were not gods, they were people; but they rose courageously to the challenge of their time and we can do the same. The Founders began this experiment; it’s up to us whether we will repair and renew it.
Above all else, and in your own way, make the day count. God Bless America, and God Bless the world…
