SOMETHING IS SHIFTING

The giant is awake and appropriately pissed

Something is shifting. You can feel it.

A lot’s happened over the last year, as a sleeping giant - who shouldn’t have been sleeping but hey, that’s one of the things we learned from all this - began slowly to awaken. First the smell of smoke, then eyes opening to the eeriness of an orange glow, then the sudden and undeniable realization that my God the house is on fire. By the time the giant jumped out of bed, much of the house had already burned.

Lots of voices, lots of video, lots of court cases, lots of information. By the time the giant jumped to its feet, it was already clear that the bastards meant business. They had planned this for years. Mass firings had begun. Musk got the data. Tech billionaires in on it. Corruption more obvious every day. Christian Nationalists leaving out the gospels. My God, are the Russians in on this? Tariffs start to destroy the economy. They don’t even bother to report the numbers. ICE becomes an American gestapo. Thugs are in charge, here and in Israel. Russia gets to chew up Ukraine. Every hour, the evidence mounts. American democracy is under attack. They’re staging a coup against the government… and unfortunately they are the government.

All that’s the bad news but there’s good news too. The winds are changing. Awakening mounts. Regular Americans come out of their homes, surround ICE agents and yell No Fucking Way. Chicago, New York and elsewhere are having none of it. Federal judges, one after the other, strike down the illegal bile they keep vomiting from the White House. Electoral trends have begun to shift. The criminal gang of sycophantic fools can feel they’re beginning to lose their grip. The President sounds like he’s starting to implode. That’s the thing about the dark lord he serves. You become his servant, and in time he turns against you too.

As Churchill said, “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” No one else is coming to save us. It doesn’t matter who’s Red or Blue. We’re being reminded what it means - and reminded that it means a lot - to simply be American.

On any given day we might slip, lose some ground, take a hit from the neo-fascist forces that have decided America should be theirs. But the army of democracy has gathered now, organized by nature itself. A critical mass has reached Hell no. All that matters is to keep it up. Read. Gather. Learn. Spread information. Attend a rally. Don’t sleep on this. Do not deny it. Keep your eyes wide open. You’re not alone. We woke up late, but it doesn’t matter. What matters is we’re slamming it now.

Your ancestors are proud of you, by the way. For a while they wondered if we were too soft for this. But something is shifting. The giant is awake, and he/she is appropriately pissed.
