Very good news! Very good news indeed! A reasonable approach is all anyone ever wanted.

I believe full staffing in each department should return until appropriate reviews are completed, and advisories are given, but by someone who has no huge monetary conflicts of interests, who has been vetted and who has, at least, gone through the confirmation process. All those other cabinet members had to withstand the questioning. No wonder they are frustrated. They now feel the result of the unbridled actions of Musk.

I have to give credit where credit is due; good for Rubio and others to stand up to defend the functioning of their departments, at least on this issue. It would be very wise for them to get some Inspectors General back to help weed out the trouble spots. We're not winning on every front and no one said we ever would, but it is good to celebrate the positive things that do happen and to remember to be thankful.

That doesn't mean we now exhale and turn the page. We stay watchful, clear-headed and active in the ways we're called.

Maybe be kind to yourself and to another within the next 24-48 hours. Perhaps we can try seeking first to understand someone before offering our POV and really try to listen to what they're saying. It can be such a gift to the moment.

Be well!

I agree with all of that all though clearly it won’t happen that way. Also, Mussk now has the passwords and is on the inside of every computer in every agency.

It is indeed scary that Musk has access to our most personal information, has access to top secret government info, and has been given free range to gut whole government departments; and don't forget, Trump still has many of the classified documents he took from the WH. Tho' this particular matter is a win, I just hope it holds. Forgive my skepticism but I don't know if these cabinet members have the guts to go up against #47 long term.

Christy B.'s avatar

Respectfully, I just don't see that particular clarity. If I may, below is what I see.

Yes, Musk having access to our data cannot, necessarily, be undone, but he was court-ordered to destroy what information he had gathered. If he is found to be in violation of that court order I imagine there are court repercussions or remedies for that, such as his removal from his present position, which can clear the way for a more skillful tactitian. Afterall, he appears to have no more right to access our data than a regular "civilian" who would never be given the unfettered access that he has. With enough pressure from all sides, I can see someone replacing Musk who will undergo a confirmation hearing, and Musk being reaasigned somewhere else. And why not? Historically, Trump's cabinet is no more than a game board, with pieces being moved on and off by him, at any time, in any numbers, at will. And if not that exact scenario, IF Musk is forced to admit to, and keep, his original job designation as an Special Gov't Employee ("SGE") then his position must end after 130 days, which is at the end of May, one reason I believe Musk has been slashing and smashing things at break neck speed, and why Trump asked Musk to be more aggressive.

In the best of all worlds we would put enough pressure on Congress and the WH to shut down DOGE, due to its LACK of efficency, it's cost in terms of governmental redundancy, which is in itself wasteful, not to mention the multiple dangers and threats it has famously created for the American People while those in gov't ought to be looking out for their best interests.

And as far as passwords are concerned, I'm feel we should twice, back to back changed our passwords connected to our bank accounts and our Google and Microsoft accounts and any other passwords to sites containing our most sensitive data. It's a hassle, but that way they cannot use our old passwords they accessed to change our present passwords and then lock us out of our accounts as hackers do, or, worse, manipulate, if not lose any of our data. And, on that note, I'm reverting back to paper billing and taking regular screenshots of what limited bank holdings I do have in case they errantly lose our banking data due to their recklessness or any possible retaliations to our subversive voices. Think about it, so many of us have gone paperless which means we are wholly dependent on digital data, but if it somehow gets erased then what?

I do feel, however, with so much negative attention having been given to Musk's internationally-displayed chainsaw dance, and with the voices of countless disgruntled citizens, Senators, and now cabinet members, the unthinkable has happened; Trump has, metaphorically, hand-cuffed Elon Musk. He might as well have, literally, taken the chainsaw out of Musk's hands, on stage. Additionally, Trump put some of z The People's power back in the hands of the cabinet members, which we know is not perfect, but it is an improvement. And with that brings back individual accountability to each department head, and that, may cause them to seek better and faster ways at uncovering the so-called flagrant abuse, fraud and waste they've been mandated to uncover. IF they're looking to impress Trump, and we know they are, they MAY see the best way to do that is by bringing back the ones who know the departments best, the Inspectors General. And, of course, with two back-to-back Space X starships having exploded in flight, causing no less than four major airports in the FL area to shut down maybe Elon will feel the need to go back to take care of his business there. And if not that, then maybe he will just get bored because he's no longer allowed to be the premier front-man for Trump. Anything is possible, as I see it. There are so many ways this can go.

I think many of us saw this Trump-Musk duo fizzling out or imploding and we're seeing the beginnings of that. I know this may sound strange, but I'm sort of optimistic that more mistakes and more gridlock will occur as Trump's plans move forward with some higher minds, and perhaps hearts, getting brave enough to finally speak some truth to power. I see the most recent "cabinet gripe session" as a move in that direction.

We can't let their chaos "dis-hearten" us or take away our hope or our faith. This is a good time to address, and release, any past pains around loved ones having disappointed us so we can see others at face value, rather than through a projected lense that distorts not only our occular vision, but our imagined visions for our collective future as well. Springtime is a great time for growth and starting anew. Our indomitable spirits will lead the way if we take the emotional weight off of our wings.

With God all things are possible.

Be well!

Also: Divided Supreme Court rejects Trump bid to freeze nearly $2 billion in foreign aid

¨WASHINGTON (AP) — A sharply divided Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the Trump administration’s bid to freeze nearly $2 billion in foreign aid, but it was not clear how quickly money might start flowing.

By a 5-4 vote, the court rejected an emergency appeal from the Republican administration, while also telling U.S. District Judge Amir Ali to clarify his earlier order that required the quick release of nearly $2 billion in aid for work that had already been done.

It was the second time the new administration had sought and failed to persuade the conservative-led court with three appointees of President Donald Trump to rein in a federal judge who put the brakes on executive action taken by Trump.

Although the outcome is a short-term loss for the administration, the nonprofit groups and businesses that sued are still waiting for the money they say they are owed. Organizations in the U.S. and around the world have cut services and laid off thousands of workers as a result.¨

If Federal workers indeed work for the American people and not for either of the two Cartel Party's operatives, then why do we have a partisan nuisance with a team of juveniles whose primary purpose seems to be terrorizing our employees and distracting them from their jobs?

Edwards Deming, a more accomplished manager than anyone running either embarrassing party had as one of his primary management concepts: "Drive out fear." When a manager does not do that, the organized enterprise produces crap. Terrified people cannot produce quality work, whether that is a product or a service. If we have nuisances spreading fear among our workers, then who is the first person our enterprise needs to get rid of?

Is that concept a little too complex to grasp?

LOL! TQM is a byzantine bastardization of Demings' quality circles. The latter reduces to the practice of encouraging a team of people to work on a problem that they are experiencing, close to, and want to solve... largely by getting out of their way. They invariably do it better than a narcissist issuing edicts from on high. To wit: they won't discover any 300-year-olds collecting social security checks.

According to NPR that meeting was all for show. During the state of the union address Trump referred to Musk as the head of DOGE. Musk legally cannot be the Head of DOGE and as such law suits were immediately filed after the address. Trump had to call that meeting as a recourse.

Yes John, I heard that on NPR also. Tonight, someone analyzed Mario's probably of a backbone, and the commentor made a point of the fact Mario switched to the Trump camp after Trump denigrated him in the press when he ran for President. The Commentor said something in essence to "Mario knows which side his bread is buttered," so he'll only go so far. Let's see.

Yes. Definitely. All quoting from the information given to the NYTimes by someone or someone's who were in the room and witnessed it. Looked Ike someone was recording the shenanigans with a cell phone, perhaps because it seemed to be a transcript of what went on in the room. Musk, Rubio, Duffy, Trump... play by play.

I don't know, this could also mean that maybe Marco Rubio can become the first casualty after Vivek. I always wondered whether it would be either Marco or Tulsi to go next, right from the beginning. Even in Trump's address to the house, he casually joked about placing the blame on Marco for any foreign affairs fiasco and suddenly Marco wore the poker face in a huff. I think Marco is very uncomfortable with his role, just a feeling I got, after observing him in the showdown of the duo at the white house with Zelensky, he was almost inconsequential and nonexistent.

Marianne Williamson's avatar

I wonder that as well. If the reporting from that New York Times article is correct, I can’t imagine Musk is just going to accept it. I think he feels like “Hey, I paid $250 million for this government and it’s mine.” Also, he has the passwords to everything at this point already

Expand full comment
Ravikant Kolli's avatar

Exactly. It is unprecedented that Musk can stride into the oval office to conduct off-the-cuff press briefings (not even restricted to the designated press room of white house) and the president looks like he is reduced to someone who cannot intervene and is a mere lame duck. Musk is sending (not so) subtle message to everyone to get who the real boss is. Even the kid in the room is not an accident, he just reduced the oval office into a kids corner, letting everyone know that they cannot stop even his kid, leave alone picking a fight with him, protocol and decorum be damned. Maybe I am reading too much into it but how does one explain an unelected, non cabinet member dressed in gothic outfits and conducting press meets from the oval office by leaving a kid to run around and the president acting like a baby sitter at best (for someone who shoots off his mouth a lot in front of the press, it is unfathomable that he maintains a very restrained silence all along, while Musk is speaking, not intervening, not correcting nor even indulging in loathsome self praise during that period).
