The two party systems creates the illusion that we have choice. Both parties are controlled by the same corporate masters. Without election finance reform nothing will change. Political campaigns should be limited to a few weeks, and they should be publicly financed. The media should be required to provide equal time for each candidate; and the candidates should be required to address the issues that affect the people and the planet, rather than the theatrical performances that are designed to divide and conquer. As long as our politicians are wholly owned by corporate special interests, nothing will change.
The cult of elitism has highjacked democracy and the public discourse. Positions of power are given to those who have a vested interest in sustaining the status quo. Some of the least qualified people on the planet are in charge. Marianne's example of the alcoholic family can be extended to include toxic narcissists whose life of privilege and entitlement has intoxicated them with a sense of power and superiority. How can we expect people who have every imaginable resource available to them, to understand or care about the plight of the ordinary person.
We have more weapons than we need to destroy the planet many times over, yet we allow our bloated war budget to continue to consume resources that could be provided for the people. Our representatives don't represent the people. Corporate power and bullying have created a virtual dictatorship where anyone who actually has good intentions, is soon put in their place by their rulers.
It is unrealistic to think that the current system can effect positive change. I pray that a collective vision for healing and transformation can manifest the miracles that we so desperately need.
Thank you. We must encourage our fellow humans to understand the core issues and how they can be resolved. Few in the public discourse ever talk about finance reform. Slavery has not been abolished, it simply masquerades as employment.
Marianne, your noble quest for communicating the truth, along with a chorus joining with you can save humanity. At this juncture, we are all tumbling into the abyss until we collectively decide ENOUGH! I truly think the human instinct to thrive and survive will be the turnaround just in time. So it's JIT or collapse. I know these ideas seem horrid but I don't think trying to form a third party is the answer this time around.
We just need to quickly move ahead in unison in a manner that manifests knowing we must give up many destructive vested interests in order to regenerate and restore not only our misguided governance but to heal Mother Earth and all of her co-inhabitants too. She's crying! We must answer her call, and be grateful for our existence.
I am trying, in a kind way, to help raise the awareness that we will be facing some real heartbreaks ahead that will require our balance, clarity, courage, and will to live. Marianne, I appreciate your bravery at this tipping-point in human history. I will not give up until my last breath because the universe has been good to me and I want others to be able to live on a thrivable, peaceful biosphere as long as Mother Nature wants us here. With much love to all--please stay strong for those you love and for the people of all nations! We are one.
Thanks for this. In particular, people need to hear this: “The problem is not with the American people, of that I am absolutely certain. On issue after issue, we're not nearly as divided as we're portrayed in the media.”
The main task for people interested in democracy right now is to break this false dichotomy that’s only serving to control the narrative and keep people sleeping. We need independent voices to speak up, and people who are confused by identity politics to start speaking to one another and find out just how much Americans actually have in common in their values and wishes. It isn’t about “reaching across the isle,” it is about Americans recognizing the isle as a device that is intended to control the public’s political agency by creating (the illusion of) impossible divisions through a grotesque exploitation of whatever alienation and fear might exist in our wounded culture.
How can this become REQUIRED READING for every American? We are truly blessed yet again by the inspired and inspirational Marianne Williamson! Thank you ❤️
"Monopoly" is the key word in your fine essay. The various big corporations - weapons, oil, pharma, media - are controlled behind the scenes by the same criminal financiers. That is why the media talking heads all read from the same script. Same for most Congressional talking heads. Criminals don't turn themselves in.
An eye-opening history of the filibuster is in the Q & A at 55:12 of this video. The overall history in the talk is incomplete, but very good on what it does cover.

Good, honest words, Marianne! It is so frustrating fighting for the Dems to get into power and then watching it just drift away. A Do Nothing term of office will undoubtedly lead us back to a Trump, Tom Cotton, or worse. I left the Democrats several years ago to become an Independent but am still watching our elected politicians tread water as the ship sails away again. I appreciate your clear thinking!
For many years I registered Independent or Not Affiliated/NA, then I moved to a “closed primary” state. If I didn’t choose a party I would not be able to vote in the primary election. As long as there are “closed primary” states there will be those folks who miss out on major elections. I’m not sure at this time , as to how it can be eliminated. Redistricting is another set back.
Totally agree with your premise. It's corruption at its finest that has our world, in part, in such a mess!
Having material stuff and power has replaced reverence for life. Hearts must change since policies and laws fail. I rest my case.
Human compassion must regenerate or it's over for people.
I'm relying on JIT and the grand universe for our survival. Only mass, peaceful demonstrations will work now. We are bankrupt without collective participation.

So totally agree with your assessment! Take care.

For so many years I've longed for the option to vote "none of the above." Count me in to assist with creating the transformation catalyst.
Excellent conversation! Love You!

Coal and big pharma, so THAT explains it. Sigh. Thank you Marianne. You had my vote at hello!
It's really not that different here in Australia unfortunately . Thank you for all your insight and wisdom . You are a blessing to the world Marianne

Here, here! Amen. 🗳
I want to change parties! What do you think of Andrew Yang’s- is it the Future- party? If not I’ll go I dependent.

Agree!
Radically subversive is what's needed! No more pretending that all is well.
Also, Eric, I love your term "institutional inertia"! So absolutely true. Keep on, keeping on.
