Good content Marianne. I think it's important not only to understand history and how it can repeat but also to be clear on definitions and semantics. I love John's clear definition of fascism as, "fascism is just a far-right authoritarian political ideology that revolves around extreme nationalism and generally... near the end of its run puts corporations in charge of your political organizations. It marries very heavily your economy and your politics in a way that doesn't put Right. Your government in charge of your industry...". Thanks for posting.

Absolutely. You and others might appreciate it.

About a decade ago, I came across this summary and found it useful. It’s a simple one page list in PDF form with brief, succinct explanations about each characteristic.

“The 14 Characteristics of Fascism“

Political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt recently wrote an article about fascism ("Fascism Anyone?

"Free Inquiry, Spring 2003, page 20). Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile), Dr. Britt found they all had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The excerpt is in accordance with the magazine's policy.”

Be a bully of conviction and coercion over others to wear them down, to disgust them, to convince them...

Such men do not prize truth nor even the rule of law. They lie without compunction, and they lie repeatedly until they confuse ordinary people. They accuse their opponents of the crimes they themselves are committing, thereby creating cognitive dissonance. In just such a way these sociopaths either silence their opponents or condition their followers to believe the incredible. Such men as Trump, Vance, Reagan, Mike Johnson, Steven Miller, as well as John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett the Supreme Court officials who forbade the counting of votes in Florida to give George W. Bush the presidency) do whatever they believe is expedient. But such pathologically narcissistic individuals are in the minority, so why cannot we in the majority unify, strategize, and do the hard work of sacrifice to bring about justice?

Fascism does not collapse of its own accord. Only by people countering the fascists' lies, cruelty, massive incarceration, and state-sanctioned violence will it collapse. Fascists do not play by the rules and do not hesitate to terrify, isolate or kill their opponents. (Being decent is not enough as people avert their eyes from what is dangerous: We are being challenged to act). For ours is a time to be alert, creative, courageous and inclusionary--for we are all vulnerable.

Trumpism is not merely aiming to destroy our vulnerable democracy but also aims to deviate all of humanity away from combatting corporate-driven climate disruption. The time is now or never to save our humanity and our precious world!

Wow, already!

I feel very uncomfortably close to this, havaing read Madeline Ablbright's tome as well when it was first released. John's collagoration in this video was wonderful and unsetteling. I am a bit too close to these feelings presently, because I trust they are grounded in many of the facts you both shared. How corrageous and saddening, indeed! I thought I was relatively alone in this thinking, too, even as I'm watching it happen in real time here.

Still, I trust Holy Spirit to manage my fear, and will do the next thing with my ballot for Prop. 50 here in California, and on the telephone. I do not hate anyone. I do indeed have other, deep feelings for the things they do. The Course has gotten me here where I must love folks like DT but I am certainly not advised to like what they do. I am compelled to love, not hate myself and the next person, and my life is full of opportunities to practice this and grow more facile against temptations that lead otherwise. Jesus prayed "Thy kingdom gome. Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven." That's my happy employment now, for hopefully any now that I can.

So, what you covered in your outstanding interview with John was fearful, I remain undetered, and will be kind even to my thoughts of Mr. Miller, Mr. Trump and all the rest, simply because I trust the principles of The Course. I trust in the power of my prayers and my thoughts.

Thank you for being as you are, every day in my life, too!

After Reagan, like a recipe, it congealed, into the “creation of a department called ‘homeland’.”

Marianne, this is a fantastically important interview to share with all those you love and those who wish to see a better America. It confirms my concern about the link between fascism and corporate power. Thank you for sharing it with everyone. I will re-watch it so it seeps in without doubts! Indeed, it would be worthy of another session with John that would include a Q&A too with your subscribers. Again, it was tremendous. Joan
